I Love My Zuke

A few months back we came across an ad on Craigslist for a cute little blue 1988 or 1989 Suzuki Samurai that the owner had nicknamed RONIN. Having a kid who was all about Stargate Atlantis for years, of course we had to have it. I’ll wait while you google that if you weren’t a fan of the show, the dude was hot for a crazy dread headed bushman.

We took it home, cleaned it up, and took it out a few times before deciding it needed an overhaul. Along the way we stopped referring to it as Ronin and it ended up just bein’ ZUKE. And boy do I love my Zuke.

It’s like racing down the highway in a dune buggy. Actually it doesn’t even really like to GO at highway speeds but it still feels like you’re about to lift off when you try.

Very little suspension, so you feel every little bump. Train tracks are fun. The windows in both the driver and passenger doors like to slowly slide down a little while you’re driving. The wipers are about three inches long and at least remove some of the water on the windshield so you can sortof see through the fog that the insufficient heater blower on full defrost setting can’t quite remove. The wind makes the convertible top flap and sway against the roll bars and the muffler surely isn’t doing a very good job at muffling so forget conversation or listening to music from the cheesy 5$ speakers Bubba threw under the dash.

But I LOVE it. It takes a few drops of gas to boot into town (which I do at least twice a day) instead of the truck sucking back 5$ just to start it.

Here’s a video of how Ronin became Zuke, our l’il bush beast. We plan on takin it out A LOT this summer. Who knows, maybe we’ll even find a squatch.
